Stylist Q &A:  Joseph Chase on Isla Fisher’s Oscar Party Hair

The red carpet isn’t the only place to catch a glimpse of Hollywood beauty during award season; after parties are chock-full of celebrities never lacking in fabulousness. The 2011 Oscars were no exception. We had the pleasure of speaking with hairstylist extraordinaire, Joseph Chase, of the Argyle Salon & Spa in West Hollywood, CA about styling actress Isla Fisher’s amazing red hair for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party held at the Sunset Tower Hotel, home of the Argyle. We also got the chance to pick his brain on the rest of the starlets at Sunday’s festivities.

America’s Best Salons: How did you achieve Isla’s Veronica Lake style for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party?

Joseph Chase: To achieve this old Hollywood glamour hairstyle for the party I used a one inch barrel curling iron and wrapped the hair around the barrel to get a tight wave. Next, I used a Mason Pearson Soft Bristle Brush to loosen the waves. For added shine I applied Davines No. 10 Polish then finished with Oribe Soft Laquer Hair Spray.

ABS: How about that amazing color?

JC: I love her red hair; it’s so in right now! Isla is lucky enough to be blessed with this color au natural. But for those who want to achieve this rich red I would first set the base tone with a beautiful red brown (for a more natural look) and for that extra shine, add a beautiful color gloss for an extra 20 minutes under heat.

ABS: Anyone’s hair you didn’t love at this year’s Oscars?

JC: I would have to say that the starlets are not letting me down this year in terms of color. Everyone had beautiful shades and tones. If I had to mention any mess up with the hair it would be to cut down on the frizz. Scarlett Johansson had a beautiful style but it seemed very parched.

ABS: How would you improve on Scar Jo’s look?

JC: I would suggest a high shine color gloss and for extra thirsty hair, a Davines Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle. Put this thick conditioning mask on under the heat for 15 minutes and voila! Hair like new!
